Meet Jar Head, a confident and charming 2-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix who is ready to step into his next chapter with a family of his own! At 56.5 pounds, Jar Head is a large, muscular boy with plenty of personality packed into one handsome package. He has the kind of confident presence that immediately catches your attention, but it’s his playful and entertaining nature that really makes him special. Jar Head appears friendly and well socialized, and he enjoys being out and about. One of his favorite things is walking, so he’d be a great companion for someone who enjoys getting outside and having a four-legged buddy by their side.

He demonstrated some dominant behavior toward other dogs in the shelter and may need further assessment and/or training.  Shelter interactions between dogs can be challenging and don’t always reflect a dog’s true behavior that would be experienced in a more calm, controlled environment. Dogs should be introduced more slowly by walking them together outdoors on neutral ground, starting with plenty of space between them and rewarding calm, relaxed behavior. As they grow more comfortable, they can gradually walk closer, enjoy brief sniffing and greetings, and eventually spend time together, each leashed and in a secure fenced area. Once they’re ready to come inside, continued supervision, removing toys and food that might be guarded, and giving each dog plenty of breaks can help them build a happy, positive relationship at their own pace. Crating dogs near each other may also help with the introduction process.
